Forever Telford

I had a fantastic time at the Forever Living Products Success Express at Telford International Centre on Saturday! I have only been with the company for just a few weeks, but I have yet to see anyone looking miserable or unhealthy.
What a fantastic way to live: healthy, aspiring to wealthy, and full of beans, all mixed up with a huge amount of praise and encouragement. There's a brilliant website with lots of information, testimonials and product information, not to mention the help and support from my sponsors and everyone else in the team. There's a real family feel to the way things are run.
Think about it - When were you last praised at work...told what a difference you were making to the company, to the clients, to your own well being?
Until just a few weeks ago I knew very little about Aloe Vera. I had used lots of beauty products which had  Aloe Vera somewhere towards the bottom of the Ingredients List, and I knew that it was good for burns and scalds because that's what the First Aider used when I scalded myself quite badly in a  cafe in a zoo many years ago. I never imagined that it was such a versatile plant!
My own health has improved tremendously, to the point where I have been able to reduce the amount of medication I take, and I have been told by those who know me well, that I do look healthier and happier.
I feel as though I am on a fantastic journey learning new things every day, making new friends and enjoying opportunities that noone has ever offered to me  in my many years of employment.
On Saturday I watched so many people going up on the stage to receive their awards; I listened to their testimonials and I listened to the advice given by some of the most successful people in the company.
I really do believe that I can be one of those successful people, and am determined to be up there on the stage receiving my Supervisor award  very, very soon...

Smoking Cessation for Couples?

What does the word "COUPLE" suggest to you?

For many people the immediate thought will be of a relationship of an intimate nature between 2 people who love and respect each other; who have common interests or beliefs. It implies a long term commitment and support.

It's this second statement which I want to focus on - "long term commitment and support".

For many smokers it wasn't difficult to start smoking because they were doing it to fit in, to feel part of the crowd, and they were supported in becoming smokers by their smoker friends.

The difficult part comes when the smoker decides that they want to return to being a non-smoker. It can be a long and lonely journey.

That's why I am running this special offer in June 2012, Smoking Cessation for Couples - except that the second person in the couple can be anyone who shares your desire to stop smoking.

Your "other half" might be a member of your family, a partner, a work colleague, a friend or neighbour...    it is only important that they, like you, have a commitment to stop smoking.

Think about it - It is so much easier to stick to a diet if you are dieting with a friend or attending a support group. It 's the obvious thing to do.

If you were training  for a marathon you would be encouraged to join a group.

So, if  you are ready to become a non-smoker again, why not ask around your family and friends to see if  anyone else is ready to quit, and then plan to quit together. You can support each other, challenge each other and become non-smokers again.

Visit my website for further details. Don't delay - the offer is time-limited for June 2012 only.

150 days

I almost  missed the 150 day milestone ( It was actually last Tuesday) - 150 days without chocolate or toffee or Haribos!
Why did I nearly miss it? Well, I think that the main reason is that I just don't really think about chocolate anymore. It's a habit I have broken - and to be fair it wasn't hard to do. The hard part was in not drifting back into it in a thoughtless, careless moment.

Of course I have tried other things in the past to ditch the chocolate:
  •  Stopping on a memorable date such as a birthday
  • Stopping a month before a memorable date
  • Cutting up the chocolate into ridiculously tiny pieces
  • Eating a 1lb of Thornton's misshapes in one go thinking that I would sicken myself ( I did feel sick but it didn't stop me!)
  • Sharing
  • Leaving all of my money at home so that  I wouldn't be tempted to visit the shop on the way home ( great until I needed petrol)
And the list goes on...

And any or all of those  might work for others, but in the end the thing that worked for me was exactly the same thing that I would use with a client: Hypnotherapy and EFT.

I'm now looking forward to making it a full year without chocolate, toffee and Haribos.

Roll on December 31st!

Saturday, 12 May 2012

It's how you say it!

Never underestimate the power of words!
Each and every time you receive  a flier or promo material, a charity letter or  notification of an event or offer, you can be sure that the words and phrase used have been chosen for a reason.
One of the first things you might notice is the constant use of "you" in the text. The writer does this to develop a personal relationship with you and goes on to use repetition of ideas, short sentences and positive language  to engage you, the reader, so that you continue to move on through the text.
At the end of the text a simple instruction or piece of key information will be given - a call to action to the reader.
This will be  repeated, either word for word or variations on the key idea ( 3 times is  highly effective) and the text centred, emboldened or set against a significant amount of white space for effect.
This is highly effective as the reader finds that they are taken along with no natural ending and the promise of key information, which of course is not accessible unless you read to the end.
Do have a look at the next piece of unsolicited mail and notice the techniques used.

So now that you know about these powerful techniques, how do they relate to you and your everyday life? How can you use these to your best advantage?

The main thing is to be positive and speak and write as though what you say is actually happening. Speak in the present eg I exercise everyday,  and avoid the use of "I try" I try to exercise  every day.
Speak about events etc in the now and definitely DO NOT use the word  try...
You can do it!

The Shower of Confidence

Bath or shower? Which do you prefer? Does it depend on what you want to do with the rest of the day, or how you feel...?
Baths have become something of a luxury; something of a treat or a special occasion; something to do at the end of a difficult day to soak away all your aches and pains. By the time you have luxuriated in a bath you may be so relaxed that all you want to do is go to sleep.
Some people do their thinking in the bath; they put their world to rights before the end of the day, go to bed unburdened and awake refreshed.
Nowadays, however, the majority of people  have showers rather than baths - for all sorts of reasons: cheaper, quicker, more refreshing etc

You might not spend long in the shower but use the time to your advantage:
The shower can be the perfect place for a few well chosen affirmations, especially at the start of the day; words that will get you off to a good start and enable you to achieve your potential.

Use the following, or create your own:
  • I am confident and calm
  • I am in charge of my destiny
  • I am proud of who I am and what I have achieved
Speak in the present and the positive; don't use "I will.." or "try".

Say the affirmations in your head, say them out loud, or put them to the tune of your favourite song. It doesn't really matter -  just  be confident.

Alternatively,  as the water flows over your body, imagine that the water is washing away all your troubles, fears and negative feelings. Imagine that the water droplets are tiny words representing your negative feelings and watch as they disappear down the drain. Then imagine that the water droplets coming  from the shower head are all positive words and notice how they make you feel as they wash over your body.
The more often you do this, the easier it will become  and you will soon be able to benefit from your Shower of Confidence.

100 Days without Chocolate, Toffee or Haribos!

It's official: on Easter Monday I reached 100 days without chocolate, toffee or Haribos!
In fact it has been remarkably easy so far to resist all temptation. I have absolutely no interest in, or desire for, chocolate. The self hypnosis and EFT which I used at the end of December  are still going strong. I haven't done anything extra - although it would take only minutes to do. My subconscious has accepted that I no longer need chocolate to survive and I can't say that I miss it at all.
With this, however, has come an unexpected  problem: I can't function in the sweet shop or sweet aisle in the supermarket. Not ideal when there were Easter eggs to be bought.
On the rare occasion I have been asked to pick up sweets or chocolate for other members of my family  it has been almost impossible to buy the correct items.
I'll try to explain...
Imagine being in a foreign country, one where the alphabet is different so that you can't pick up any clues about the items you want to buy. Now imagine going into a shop there to buy a simple item and finding that everything in the shop looks similar and you can't work out what is what from the packaging.
That's how it is in the sweetshop. I can see the different bars of chocolate, but actually finding the chocolate I have been asked to buy  is almost impossible. Luckily I didn't have too many eggs to buy or I would probably still be in the shop...
Hypnotherapy is a fantastic tool for overcoming unwanted habits - I used it for my obsession with chocolate, toffee and Haribos - but it is equally effective for smoking cessation, nailbiting,  drinking, or teeth grinding,   to name but a few.
Whatever your habit, hypnotherapy can help, and for many unwanted habits the problem can be cleared in just one or two sessions.
Remember that a habit is just a learned response;  the brain can be retrained to reject that learned response.
Don't delay! Take action today and put a stop to those unwanted habits.

Spring Cleaning

We have had a very odd few weeks of weather, I'm sure you will agree - a few days of biting cold, some days dull and overcast, a flurry of snow here and there, and now and again, like today, a beautiful Spring day...
There is no doubt that as soon as the sun comes out and the days lengthen that many people find a renewed joy in life. The opportunity to cast off heavy coats and boots, to actually feel warm air against your skin has an almost magical effect on the senses. You will notice people smiling more, walking with purpose,  beginning to enjoy life...
Spring  Cleaning is still the time for many people to take stock of their homes: to clean, to organise, to renew and replace.
It is also the time when we reflect on our life, and set about making changes, whether that is in the relationships we have, or in our lifestyle, or the way we want to live our life.
Sometimes a change can  be something very small, perhaps remembering to focus on what you have, rather than what you don't have; sometimes it is life changing  and immediate such as ending a negative relationship or moving house or changing jobs. Sometimes it is a shift in attitude or action which will have a profound and longterm effect.
Whatever you need to do, no matter how daunting, it is down to you as an individual to take action, to make the first move, to be proactive.
Remember: If you always do what you have always done,  you will invariably get the same ( disappointing?) results.
Spring Clean your life today and see what a difference it makes!

No Smoking Day 2012 coming soon...

No Smoking Day 2012

How many cigarettes do you buy each week? At what cost?
Well, if you are a 20 per day smoker you consume approximately 140 per week ( give or take the cigs you give to your mates and the cigs they give to you) - at around £6 per 20 that 's £42 per week and £168 per month...
£2000+ PER YEAR! EVERY YEAR! £2000+ PER YEAR!

What value do you put on a healthier life with renewed energy, better skin, improved tastebuds... every day... for the rest of your life?
What value do you put on a healthier life with renewed energy, better skin, improved tastebuds... every day... for the rest of your life?

Save Money; Save Your Life; Make up your mind to QUIT today!

And if you are still not convinced, try googling "amputee smoker"  - the image  that I have used successfully with young people who are not convinced by the healthy life/ better skin/ financial argument.

The image really is too disturbing to put here, but it is of a middle aged male smoker who had had all four of his limbs amputated as a result of his addiction.

Luckily for him, he had a "friend" on the ward who fashioned a cigarette holder from a coat hanger so that he could continue to smoke...

Blog It!

Great Hypnotherapist! Highly skilled Reiki Practitioner! Pretty good cook if I say so myself, all round lovely person, and now, moderately competent at tweakifying my Blog from bog standard to something  that doesn't look as though it has been cobbled together by a five year old...
I am particularly proud of my swimming fish! What do you think? Any suggestions for further improvements gratefully received.
The thing is, I know that there are many things about the Digital Age that will always remain a mystery to me, but I do try to improve - even though it take me hours to do the things that others can do  in minutes. And it is so easy to get it wrong. I still get confused between My Wall and My Profile on Facebook, and worry about who can see what, but what a great sense of achievement there is when a new skill is gained or a difficulty overcome.
Perhaps it's an age thing? My daughter shakes her head with pity when I stumble through trying to explain what I want to do on the computer, and does a fair imitation of my crude attempts to text. I'm actually quite pleased with myself on the texting front, particularly as I have recently discovered that there is a Template option for replies.
As a new recruit to the world of blogging one of my earliest mistakes is very evident in that I have 2 blogs called Anne Stagg Hypnotherapy - this one, and the one that I created when I didn't know the difference between New Blog  and New Post...

There is a very true saying which goes something like, "If you always do what you have always done, you will always get the same results..."

I know that for my business to grow I  need to market it using a range of strategies. I know that a few years ago it would have been enough to use posters, business cards, letters of introduction, and personal contacts, but time has moved on and  Social Media is the  key to succcess. I want to use Social Media to promote my Clinical Hypnotherapy and Reiki skills so I have had to do something different; I have had to step outside of my comfort zone.

When did you last step outside of your comfort zone? If there is something about your life that you don't like, the only way that it will change is if you do something about it.

50 days Without Chocolate...

I have been 50 days without chocolate, toffee and Haribos - and for anyone who knows  me, that is a tremendous achievement!
I  grew up in very poor circumstances - we had a very meagre existence - but one thing we did have, was access to a very good market with not one, but two brilliant sweet stalls selling all manner of sweet, chewy special treats.  My mum would go out shopping and come back with sweets for myself and my brother - and if we were upset or ill, had a trip to the dentist or the doctor, we would be rewarded with sweets.
Even today, when I am ill and return from the GP my natural inclination is to stop at the Village Shop and buy something sweet, to"make me feel better" or  " because I deserve it".
As a Clinical Hypnotherapist, I know that chocolate and sugar addictions are very common and often the root cause of weight problems, not to mention life threatening conditions such as diabetes. Many people know that they will need help and support to overcome these addictions, but the idea of giving up something so lovely can be a step too far. It is easier to make up excuses than to make a lifestyle change.
When I was first training  as a Clinical Hypnotherapist I also took a short course in EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique). EFT is a therapy which involves tapping on the meridians of the body ( principally on the face and hand) whilst making positive statements about a problem or perceived problem.  I remember that a group of us all tapped for our addiction to chocolate; it took about 10 minutes in total and I didn't touch chocolate again for something like 8-9 months.
This time I have combined EFT with self hypnosis. I have set myself the challenge of having a chocolate free 2012 and so far, so good.
It really is quite difficult to explain  my new relationship with chocolate, toffee and Haribos. Whereas before Christmas I was regularly eating a couple of bars of chocolate  or a whole bag of toffees ( Morrisons own brand chocolate eclairs being amongst my favourites) per day, I now have no interest in eating them. I do not crave the taste or the texture. The smell has no effect on me whatsoever. I find it easy to say no thanks when offered sweets and feel only disinterest when I am around them.
What I have noticed is that my tastebuds are recovering,  so that I enjoy the sweetness of fruits again; mandarins and strawberries have easily replaced the chocolate eclairs.  I have also noticed a difference in my skin and general energy levels.
The EFT, combined with self hypnosis,  have worked perfectly for me and I would recommend this to anyone who wishes to disassociate themselves from chocolate or any other food issue.

The Simple Things in Life

When did you last stop to appreciate the simple things in life?
Nowadays so many people seem quite willing to spend a small fortune in the pursuit of happiness, when there is so much already in their lives which could fulfill their needs.gs in life,
The next time you feel stressed, fed up, at a loss, frustrated, beyond help... take some time to take stock and count your blessings.
Perhaps you could take a long deep bath, rather than an invigorating power shower?
Switch off the TV and listen to some music instead.
Dig out the box of photos  and wallow in nostalgia for a while.
The simple fact  is that some people spend all their life in pursuit of happiness when what makes them happy is right there under their nose.
For me, a walk around the garden gives the time for quiet contemplation. It's amazing how noticing new growth on shrubs or seeing the tiniest tip of a leaf poking through the soil cheers my soul. As I mentally plan the gardening jobs everything else seems to fall in to place. Cost?  Not a penny.
It is well documented that animals bring great joy and have been used successfully  for years in therapy. Smply stroking or talking to a pet soothes the soul.
No garden and no pet? Invest in a good old fashioned lava lamp and switch the lights down low. As the lamp warms up and the contents become more fluid, just let you eyes gaze in to the swirling mass of colour. You will find that tension flows away.
In hypnotherapy I often take clients through a process of getting rid of worries/ insecurities/ things that they feel are preventing them having the life they desire. You could try a version of this for yourself:
  • Sit quietly for a while with a pen and pad
  • Write words and phrases or draw simple symbols  which represent your worries and concerns
  •  Put each one on a seperate piece of paper
  • Now you destroy each one. If you have the luxury of a coal fire then take each piece of paper, say out loud what that paper represents, and throw it into the fire.
  • Alternatively, if you have a shredder then go through the same process, or rip each sheet in to as many pieces as possible, put it into a bag and put it out into the dustbin.
Simple but effective.

For more information on the benefits of  hypnotherapy please visit http://www.annestagghypnotherapy.co.uk/

Smoking Cessation: Dying for a fag.

I had a really good look at a cigarette pack just a few days ago, when a client attending for Smoking Cessation, brought along a pack to use as part of the therapy session. The pack itself was a metallic colour suggesting sleek sophistication; being "adult" etc. It was simply decorated with an image, abe simple text box edged in black for "Smoking kills", and a Contents panel listing just 3 chemicals, as opposed to the hundreds...

As a non-smoker I found the image chosen to be quite shocking: a loaded syringe with the contents coloured white and brown just like a cigarette - a clear image, in my mind, associating cigarettes with hard drug taking. The message with it gave the advice "..., don't start", but putting it on the pack of cigarettes was always going to fail as the audience reading it would already be smokers.
So why do smokers start and then get hooked so quickly?

Well, no-one is born a smoker - it is a learned habit, often started as a teenager and heavily influenced by the peer group.  Once hooked it becomes difficult to stop, because it becomes part of normal behaviour and can often be the key to being accepted ( and we all know how important it is for teenagers to be  part of a group). It is a social prop to give confidence or to provide something to keep hands occupied in a new or difficult situation.

The shocking image and stark statement "Smoking Kills" had absolutely no impact on my client, and yet he could tell me all about the dangers of smoking, and he knew the financial implications of his habit. In his head he just did not associate what he was doing, with what the cigarettes were doing to him.

Hypnotherapy is highly effective for smoking cessation, as the therapist spends a significant amount of the session building rapport with the client, listening to their language patterns and noting information which could be useful in the therapy session.  Of course it is possible to buy hypno tapes for smoking cessation, but as everyone is different, these tapes take a very broad approach and lack the specific detail that makes the therapy unique to the client.

If you, or someone you know, is ready to return to being a non-smoker, but need help and support, then please visit my website for details and contact me via the Contact Page, my email, by text or by phonecall.

Within a day your body will start to rebuild itself and the health benefits will just keep on going.

Remember that you were not born a smoker - so why would you want to die as one?

The wonders of Reiki

Now that I have moved my blog and can no longer access the old posts, I am reposting a couple of what I consider my most important pieces.

Reiki ( pronounced Ray-Key) is  a most wonderful experience to both give and receive.
It can be used for the treatment of specific conditions such as headache, period pains, backache etc, or simply for relaxation.
There is no doubt in the mind of anyone who has experienced Reiki that it has a profound effect.
As somone who came to Reiki through personal need (a debilitating prolonged period of headaches) I was delighted to find that with attunements I, too, could give and receive Reiki, and that it worked not just on people, but also on animals, plants, situations etc.
I feel very fortunate that the feedback when I give and receive Reiki is so heightened.  I work predominantly with my eyes closed as I move around the body. This is because, as I work, I  see colours  - green, purple and gold ( all good healing colours) and experience great heat and tingling in my hands. The energy (heat) is often so intense that I tend to work off the body in the aura for most of the session.
Also, of course, the old saying " Give and ye shall receive" is absolutely accurate for Reiki. If I begin a session with  a niggling ache in my knee or a headache, I know that at the end of the treatment I will also be refreshed and the aches and pains will have disappeared.
The most satisfying feeling is when a client leaves feeling fantastic, and I know that I have not had to pummel or poke them, they haven't had to take anything nasty or do anything unpleasant, but I have made a difference.

Insomnia

Now that I have moved my blog, I have decided to revise and repost my blog on Insomnia. It is certainly a subject which provokes a great deal of interest whenever it is in the news, and it is in the news quite often!

Insomnia can be caused by so many things: lifestyle, stress, bereavement, personal upheaval such as starting a new job or moving house, diet, medication...

Whatever the cause, it has a debilitating effect on the quality of life. Many people are wary of taking mediciation for Insomnia and so suffer, sometimes for years, believing that that there is no other solution.

Both Hypnotherapy, and Reiki in particular, are excellent for treating Insomnia, so why not book a treatment today? See my website http://www.annestagghypnotherapy.co.uk/ for contact details.

In the meantime some simple ways forward include:
• no caffeine/ alcohol after 7pm.
• avoid eating a heavy meal late evening - again 7pm is a good cut off point.
• if you want supper, then choose a warm milky drink and porridge or small bowl of sugarfree cereal
• leave invigourating showers for the morning and opt for a relaxing bath with lavender oil or similar
• dim the lights in the bedroom before this and ensure that the room is not too hot or cold
• the bedroom should be an oasis of calm - take the TV out!
• establish a routine and stick to it
• once in bed, close your eyes, take 2-3 slow deep breaths and slowly relax your body, beginning with your head, and working down to the feet

Phone or email for an appointment. Mention my Blog and I will give a 15% discount on one session of Reiki or Hypnotherapy.

Anne Stagg Hypnotherapy:Chocolate sprouts!

Wow! How great minds think alike!
For years I have been slipping "Sprouts are the secret ingredient in chocolate - allegedly!" in to conversations, and sitting back to see how long it took for someone to tell me that as a fact...
When I have felt particularly wicked, I've even elaborated to wide-eyed children and told them it was a government ploy to ensure that children were receiving essential vitamins and minerals.
Now I find that someone has actually gone and done it! And they look good too!
Earlier this week I switched on the TV to see beautiful, chocolate covered raw sprouts displayed artistically and looking, for all the world to see, just like a selection from one of the high class chocolatiers.
Now, if this had been January 2011, I suspect that my tiny little chocolate-centred world would have comprehensively fallen apart.
But this happened to me in January 2012 - and I have been 29 days without chocolate( and toffees and Haribo); something inside me is secretly pleased, and I feel just a little bit smug...
How did I kick my habit? A combination of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and self hypnosis have rendered chocolate something of a neutral food. I can look at it and not be bothered for it. I can appreciate the aroma without wanting to taste it. I don't just pick up chocolate and eat it endlessly without even registering the taste or texture. I'm just not interested.
Will I ever eat chocolate again? Possibly.
But for now I am happy to enjoy the novelty of being chocolate free, and I know that I can boost my resolve with a quick EFT tapping session or a top up of self hypnosis.
